Samuel Játiva helps clients identify, own, and monetize patents and patent families at every phase of R&D and across the patented asset’s life cycle.
Working at the intersection of science, the law, and business, Samuel delivers the depth of technical and scientific know-how required to add value to everything he does. He delivers comprehensive and clear answers to complex questions of innovation and ownership and meticulous analysis of the legal, technical, and scientific aspects of patent prosecution and intellectual property law matters in general.
Samuel collaborates with firm attorneys on legal opinions involving a variety of patented products of importance to our clients. He assists with drafting and prosecuting patent applications at the USPTO and is involved in researching and analyzing issues involving science and patent law matters as needed. Samuel also supports freedom to operate analysis and patentability and prior art searches and works with attorneys on due diligence projects.
Samuel brings technical depth and research experience to the firm. He was a graduate research assistant at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the University of Central Florida NanoScience Technology Center. At UM, Samuel developed a non-viral, polymeric platform for targeted delivery of DNA vaccines to skeletal muscle. This work was published in Molecular Pharmaceutics. At UCF, Samuel developed and prepared iron-oxide nanoparticles for the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers. This work was also published in the ACS Nano.
Before JMIN, Samuel was a law clerk for an IP firm and an intern at the University of Miami School of Law, United Patents, The University of Miami Office of Technology Transfer, and IPS Legal Group, P.A.
Before Becoming a Lawyer
Before joining the firm, Samuel worked as a law clerk for Assouline & Berlowe, P.A., where he focused on drafting nonprovisional patent applications involving an array of consumer products and analyzed patent portfolios for potential validity and enforcement issues. He also served as a startup clinic intern for the University of Miami School of Law, focusing on performing trademark and patentability searches, preparing opinion memoranda for startup clients, and handling other legal matters, including business incorporation and review of corporate documents.
Samuel worked as a legal intern for United Patents, the University of Miami Office of Technology Transfer, and IPS Legal Group, P.A. As an intern, he constructed patent invalidity claim charts relating to patents covering
technologies such as telecommunications devices and methods, data encryption, and electronic devices; performed prior art searches for technologies involving small molecules, monoclonal antibodies, and biomedical diagnostics; researched and drafted memoranda on issues relating to 35 U.S.C. §§ 101 and 102; and supported patent licensing endeavors. Moreover, Samuel drafted nonprovisional utility patent applications spanning a range of consumer products, assisted with preparing and filing responses to patent office actions, and researched and drafted memoranda on other issues related to patent and trademark law.
Notably, Samuel’s technical and research experience includes serving as a graduate research assistant at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and UCF NanoScience Technology Center. Outside the Office
When he is not weightlifting or collecting Hot Wheels and Power Rangers memorabilia, Samuel can be found spending quality time with his wife and baby daughter.
