Kevin Gates is a paralegal focused on supporting the process of trademark and trade dress prosecution and domestic and international portfolio management. Kevin takes pride in supporting firm attorneys in providing clients with creative problem-solving and a streamlined approach to the trademark/branding process – from trademark selection through registration and renewal on a global scale.
Kevin assists in preparing and filing key trademark prosecution documents. His experience includes drafting new applications, post-filing interactions with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and Statements of Use and Amendments to Allege Use.
Kevin works on legal teams that serve JMIN clients involved in technology, financial services, insurance, consumer products, medical devices, e-commerce, retail, sporting goods, and restaurant services, among other examples. Regardless of where the firm’s client is in the trademark process or life cycle, Kevin remains dedicated to delivering the right answers to the many questions and action items that constitute a comprehensive trademark application and ongoing preservation of the mark.
Well-versed in state-of-the-art docketing software and techniques, Kevin is actively involved in helping monitor client trademark portfolios that include thousands of applications and registrations in the United States and abroad. He is also called upon to conduct special research or other projects such as trademark selection, availability searches, opinions, and ongoing monitoring endeavors.
Valued for his strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage tight deadlines, Kevin’s strong written and verbal communication abilities ensure trademark projects continue to process with appropriate deadlines met. His strong work ethic and hands-on approach to supporting the trademark process are manifest in his collaborative approach to teaming and ability to work independently and efficiently as needed.
Prior to JMIN
Before joining the firm in 2014, Kevin worked as a paralegal at the law offices of Paul & Paul and as an office manager at a small boutique hotel in downtown Philadelphia.
Outside the Office
Kevin is in the “dad zone” with a toddler and a 5-year-old – his kids take up all his spare time. Besides family, Kevin is passionate about volunteering for The Highlands Plateau Greenway, an organization for which he previously served on the board. When time permits, Kevin assists this organization in designing, building, and maintaining its trails.
